Cleaning Cedar Roofs

In North America, cedar shingles are among the most popular types of roof tile materials used on many houses due to their rustic appearance which can leave an ambience that allows a person to experience nature. Although these materials are usually made from high grade sawn woods, they can be quite demanding in terms of maintenance as compared to the newer and developed types of roofing materials. However, with proper cleaning and clearing practices, these can have longer life span and in return any homeowner can enjoy the marvelous sight that they provide.
There are many common mistakes most people all over the world are ignoring or giving importance when it comes to cedar roofs. Unlike the other types of roofing materials, these requires regular check up and maintenance as there are many things to watch out.
Molds and Moisture – the fact that these shingles are made from wood is obviously a ticket to molds and moisture problem. Especially during the rainy season, they tend to cultivate molds due to the cooler condition of the weather. This problem needs serious attention as this will lead to problems in the future. The common error of most homeowners using cedar tiles for their roof is that they believe that molds as well as moss are harmless. What they do not know is that these tiny organisms can gradually destroy the structural integrity of the wooden tiles. The best solution for this is to use a detergent, bleach, warm water, and a scrub. Inspect all the possible locations where they can inhabit your cedar tiles. In case you have found them, scrub them rigorously with the two ingredients and the water until they are removed. Always remember your safety every time you climb on your roof. You should also wear protective gears when handling chemicals in order to prevent accidents during the cleaning process.
Debris – like all the other types of roof tiles, debris are the common cause of problems as they can clog and block the pathways of water. In return, we tend to experience dripping water that enters into our house and destroys our ceiling, wall, and basically anything that it gets in constant contact. There are many different types of debris that may be blown by the strong wind during a bad weather condition. Leaves, branches, toys, and even dead carcasses of stray animals on your roof can cause problems such as overflowing water which can eventually enter your ceiling through the small cracks or openings. If ignored, you can expect major repairs or replacements of materials.
Inspection Regular – most of us ignore this simple task especially if our roofing materials are new. Although this may seem to be a basic thing to do, it is considered as one of the most essential factor in making sure that we have a well-maintained roof.
Preparations, maintenance, as well as regular inspection of the roof are very important not only for keeping the materials in good condition but also in order for the homeowner to save on his or her budget.
